What I do not get, and I am sure I am not the only one, is why more artists do not protest the songs they are assigned. It is a classic example of why winning American Asshole means less than nothing nowadays. The label just hands them a "song" that may as well have been written by an infant, and orders them to sing it. All of the risk is assumed by the "artist", and if that person happens to gain a reputation for being a talentless hack because of the label's song choice, tough titty says the label.

But then, this is partly why I would sooner listen to a Therion album nonstop for seven days straight than endure thirty seconds of what Asshole's staff calls music.

I'm glad she didn't have to sing the crap that Kara writes, that is a plus.

I don't think artists HAD a way before Twitter. Of course, these kids coming off American Asshole (love that term) are treated like they are children that don't have a clue when a lot of times they have been writing songs for years in Allen, Cook, Bowersox and even Dewyze's case. Someone like Amy Winehouse Super Druggee can pop out there on the scene with all hand-written stuff and be called a GREAT ARTIST because they had the luck of not being discovered on that crap show. I like Amy's stuff but she wouldn't have gotten through the first round. Hell she wouldn't have made through standing in line all day.

Good for her! Season 9 was so unremarkable sometimes I forget there was actually one good contestant.

It depends on the management they are assigned. AI9 being so weak, the record execs don't expects anything profitable to come out of it so they send Lee and Crystal to work with some slackers at the very bottom of the company roster, just to blow the budget. But since those people are not interested in the result they are not trying to influence the process much either. Of course, Lee is a softy and can't make any decisions of his own. But Crystal has enough character to stand up to them and get her way.

But with the higher-ups it doesn't work even for established stars. Kelly Clarkson still having to sing the crap forced upon her by the producers is the shining example. All she can do is pout and count the days until her contract expires.

she's not only good and if not for the other 8 seasons before her that brought AI down, she would've been more successful. Idol reached its peak after the 5th season after the show discovered a great pop artist (Kelly) a viral fan favorite (Clay) a unique soul singer (Fantasia) a legit country star(Carrie) and finally a rock band (Daughtry.) You cannot blame Adam and Crystal because they had to follow 2 lousy seasons which killed all the buzz of the show.

kara can't write a song to save her life. and yet, she think's she's God's gift to the music industry. i'm glad that she and her dumbo ears will not be joining us this season.
