Deb and Dave went to see  Mr. Sanjaya Malakar at his stop in Chicago yesterday on the State of Independence Tour. And yes, he was pretty awesome. So were the other bands, Brave Chandeliers and Chris Blair. So don't just make Sanjaya wish you were there... go see him. There are still tour dates for Milwaukee, Kansas City, Dallas, and Albuquerque. So go see this show. Because if you don't see Sanjaya when he comes to your town on tour, you are a horrible Worster.

Also check out more YouTube videos on Deb's YouTube channel.

The only way I would pay to see Sanjaya is if his sister and Inessa Lee Jello-wrestled nude on the stage during his act.drevil

That's a shame because Sanjaya was great. We had an awesome time!

I know, right? And the tickets were super affordable.

Anyone who won't see Sanjaya is both a non-Worster and a COMMUNIST!

Sanjaya's awesome. Too bad VFTW didn't have his schedule posted earlier...knew nothing about his tour and I coincidentally strolled right by the Arts Center in Times Sq the day of the evening he was performing. It's a good sized venue...seats around 1500. Not too shabby for a 2006 7th place finalist...bet Lee's jealous.... maybe he can sing back-up for Sanjaya next tour.

^^Lee could barely draw 80 -100 at a FREE mall event I remember reading about last fall in Cali, and yeah, so, he's upstaged by EVERYONE practically in the Top 24 from EVERY seasonLaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh

Fuck Lee. Seriously. No one cares about him.

I posted this on the message board, but some people don't venture there, so I'll repost it here:

I had such a great time at Sanjaya's concert. Dave and I were sitting there and Sanjaya just walked right by. I did a double take and then said, "Hey! Sanjaya!" He turned and I introduced us and he got a big smile. We took pix (they're on my facebook page and well as VFTW's facebook page) and chit chatted for a bit, before he had to go backstage.

The evening started out with Chris Blair. He has a Beiber haircut and they teased him about being the Beiber of the tour. He sang 4 or 5 songs and was thoroughly enjoyable. At one point, some random dude came on stage. I thought he was going to check on some equipment or something, but then he began playing the Hammmond organ to accompany Chris. He really got into it and I can only describe it as this 20-something, white guy has 'black man soul'. He really impressed me.

After Chris played, I went outside for a smoke with Dave. Then the keyboard player walked outside to get something from their van. I complimented his skills and he introduced himself as Nick, the lead singer of The Brave Chandeliers. We had a great convo with him. Then walked back in for their set.

I was quite impressed with The Brave Chandeliers. They were really good. As they were performing, Darryl (CEO of All Digital Radio) came in. He commented to us that these guys must get pissed off listening to the crap they play on the radio because they're so good. (After the show, we met the band and Darryl told them that. They said they don't listen to the radio Laugh )

After they played, some of the band stayed on stage and backed Sanjaya up. It seemed like no one wanted to get out of their seats (as we were in the back), but I said fuck it and walked right up to the stage and started taking pictures.

I then started taking videos of his songs. Dave, Darryl and the most of the rest of the audience came up and began taking pix and vid on their phones. Sanjaya really responded to the crowd and got really into it.

If you want to see the videos, you can go to my youtube channel and watch the 5 vids I uploaded.

Sanjaya finished with his single "Tempted" and was quite taken by emotion from the crowd reaction. It was genuine and quite moving.

He then came out and mingled with the crowd. I grabbed Sanjaya and took more pix of him and Dave and Darryl. Next to us was this teenage girl with her parents. You could tell she was dying to meet Sanjaya, so I pointed Sanjaya toward her. She was quite shy, but Dave noticed her shirt said "Sanjaya's #1 Fan". We commented on it and Sanjaya took notice and spent a lot of time talking to her and taking pix. It was really sweet because you could tell it totally made her day.

We said our official goodbyes and I have to say, that was THE.BEST.$10.I.EVER.SPENT! Sanjaya is the sweetest guy. He's a bit reserved and shy, but once that initial awkwardness wares off, he's all smiles.

If you are able, go out and see these guys. Don't be afraid to go up and talk to them. They're regular people who're just trying to make it out there.

If he played LA, I'd go see him for the worster value. But that video turned bad 30 seconds in.

Sounds like a great time. I'm pissed that I didn't go, despite the drive. My parents are out of town so I could have crashed at their place afterwords. rolleyes
