VFTW's Phillip Phillips is getting a hard lesson in how American Idol is a complete failure in making their winners successful. Phillip, who's supposed to be the songwriting type, needn't take the cap off his pen as his label recently put out this feeler for songs for Phillip's debut album...
POP/ROCK SONGS with MALE VOCALS in the style of David Cook, Paul McDonald, with elements of John Mayer, Train, and Jason Mraz, etc., needed by an A&R Manager of a Major Label for an AMERICAN IDOL winner working on his debut album. They’re looking for FRESH, UPLIFTING, and RADIO-FRIENDLY songs that are stylistically within the range of the referenced artists while bringing something NEW and FRESH to the table. They’ll be looking for the Top-40 Radio side of Pop/Singer-Songwriter/Rock, nothing overly moody or introspective. Your songs should be FUN and CATCHY, with BIG sing-along CHORUSES.
So basically they want to turn Phillip into the lovechild of Dave Matthews and Carly Rae Jepsen. But Phillip has the true VFTW spirit and will not take this lying down...

Some insider named Nathan Porter seems to be on Phillips side and is ready for war.
And American Idol wonders why all their recent winners have been flops.

no surprise here. i realize he's young and idealistic, but he has to wake up and understand the situation he is in. he's under contract and he had better adhere to the rules of the contract or,he will be finished as an "artist". if you don't want it,don't sign it.

I don't get what his problem is. They're trying to make him successful. Maybe it won't work but they're trying at least. If he didn't want that type of music than why did he audition for A.I. in the first place? And Is being the love child of Dave Matthew's and Carly Jepson a bad thing? Might be interesting.

It was easy to foresee this kind of crap early in the finals. I never cared much for Phillip's voice, but admired his confidence and determination to do things the way HE thought best. No way does 19E want to allow more than one or two of his songs to go on his album. It would allow him too much creative control. I suspect this is just wheels screeching before the impending trainwreck. As far as the concept of him complying else being "finished as an artist", I say hogwash. While it's true they have him over a barrel for now, now isn't forever. 19E has far more to lose here than Phillip. The public humiliation over a clash would destroy what little credibility AI has. Phillip never seemed in awe of TPTB the way other contestants have been. I don't see that changing in the future. If it comes down to lawyers, a 19E win would result in them being perceived as the greatest evil and Phillip emerging as a cult hero. Short-term loss for Phillip. But in the long run, a huge win and a

Nathan Porter is about to hit the unemployment line. It doesn't matter what PP records. Have we already forgotten that the dude can't sing?

^^ There are untold thousands in the music business right now who can't sing. One more won't make any difference.

I guess it was written for that other American Idol winner working on his debut album at the moment?

Someone had to stand up to TPTB sometime... Keep it up Phil! I wonder what will happen first.... P2 losing his career (although I hope not)or AI losing all its credibility and hopefully reclining into the grave it dug itself into?
I clicked on the article and on Plantchezzz's, I noticed they listed her name down as a sound alike... Since when did she become so great that she deserved the honor of being named as an artist worthy of imitating? She's basically just imitating Beyonce and etc. Why do we need a second rate version? And why (I think it's only me) does it sound like they think her album will launch her a career and make her an international superstar like Whitney or something?
