Well, the entertainment biz is all about who you know - sad, but true. I heard the leads on Broadway are cast solely on who the directors/producers know, and the ensamble are the only was auditioned most of the time. So I guess it's not terribly shocking that AI would do that, even though it doesn't seem fair. In the theater world, there is an ethical way and on the flip side a not so ethical way to pre cast. We don't know which way happened in her case. Ethical - the director calls an actor and asks them to audtition, not promising anything. If they have a certain role for them in mind, at auditions they fairly judge them and see if anyone else would be a better match for the part. If not, they get the role. All is on the up and up. Non-Ethical - the actor gets called prior to auditions and are promised the lead - no matter if someone is better for the part. (of course, you can ask someone if you put on the auditions announcements that that certain part is taken or if there is absolutely no one for the part after the auditions take place.) We don't know if Carly genuinely came in and auditioned in season 5- even if she knew Randy - or if she was asked to. That makes the differance.
