It's an exploitative, dishonest, and hypocritical song sung by someone who does not believe in or subscribe to it's main message, i.e. "you're pretty the way you are." It's the same thing that happened with Ashlee Simpson in her interview with Marie Claire magazine in July of 2006 where she was quoted as saying, "Everyone is made differently, and that’s what makes us beautiful and unique. I want girls to look in the mirror and feel confident." Then, in between the time when she gave this interview and when the magazine was published, Simpson got a nose job. You have to love celebrity culture: "Hey, kids, you should absolutely feel good about yourselves and never want to change! No, not because we're actually all beautiful and unique, but because you're not as rich as me and you can't afford plastic surgery, so you're stuck with that ugly nose and pointy chin and goofy ears! So I guess what I mean is that you're ugly, but you're poor, so you might as well lie to yourself. Just like I'm lying to you in my songs and magazine quotes. Wow, this is getting complicated! I think I need to go have a toke to chill out. Oh, that reminds me... Don't do drugs!"
