Simon Cowell Agains Proves How Out of Touch With Music He Truly Is

Why people listen to Simon's advice on Idol is beyond us. He's the man behind such awful records as the Teletubbies soundtrack, the Power Rangers soundtrack, and worst of all, Leona Lewis. But former boybander Brian McFadden tells The Age a hilarious tale of just how bad Simon's taste in music truly is. McFadden was previously in a boy band called Westlife, not really known in America, but pretty big in England. Simon had the band release cheesy cover versions of such lame tunes as Seasons in the Sun, Uptown Girl, and Against All Odds (the VFTW theme song) as singles. The band was being ridiculed for their lack of taste. So how did Simon want to remedy the situation? Simon sat the band down in 2004 and told them they would next be covering Barry Manilow's Mandy. Seriously. Poor, poor Brian. McFadden says, "They were formulating how to get a No. 1 record. I wanted to write my own songs and sing my own music." Another reason why the American Idol machine mostly cranks out losers. Look what they have to work with!

Westlife are pretty big here as well, but I always hated their songs and didn't get why they kept doing cheesy covers for bad songs. Now I know who to blame.

Did he seriously put together the Power Rangers soundtrack? As in the movie one? Because I liked it.

His solution to seems to be do cover versions of other artists. No wonder he made Leona Lewis sing a lot of Kelly Clarkson songs.

I came home one day to find my old roommate listening to Westlife on his computer. After hearing about a minute of it, I asked, "Are they like a Simon Cowell thing?" I could just tell. He really is completely out of touch. Lord help me though, I would still shag him.

On another topic, I've been hearing reports about the Idol tour. (Because I am a Johns-o-tard or whatever you'd like to call it, I do keep up on what he's doing.) Apparently, Michael Johns and David Cook ("Mavid" as they're now being called...eeesh) have been coming up with their own goofy little dances during the group sing of "Don't Stop the Music."

Well, about a week ago, the tour managers told them to "reel it in." The guys protested, but ended up complying (caving after many shock treatments) with the request (order). The fans went nuts and complained enough that Michael and David have been allowed to do their little dances again.

Now, I know a lot of you hate these 2 guys and probably think the dancing is stupid anyway, but this is just another example of how Idol rewards their finalists by suffocating them and controlling every little thing. Someone in the control room was like, "Hey, someone is being spontaneous and exercising free will! Seize him!"

I heard that Michael also got in quite a bit of trouble for his guest appearance at the Dan Band's show where he dueted on Fuckin' Total Eclipse of the Heart. I guess he forgot about the "no fun" rule while still under Idol ownership.

Does the Idol machine really think that we LIKE fake, manufactured personalities?

I remember Westlife! I loved their covers :/ Especially seasons in the sun. That's why I listened to them..

Though yea, it does suck that they're not allowed to write their own stuff. ?

The only reason Simon has any musical influence is because he had a few lucky business deals a long time ago. Now that he's rich, greedy people listen to him thinking they'll make a buck. Unfortunately, music has almost nothing to do with it.

Simon and AI music, in general, is as about as current as:

a) Grandma's whalebone girdle

b) Blake Lewis

c) The Black Plague

d) Stonehenge

Simon is behind a whole rash of novelty records, or at least their marketing. In addition to the Power Rangers, there were the World Wrestling Federation Superstars and the Teletubbies. Before all that though, and you may have seen this before but here's the link anyway, there was Wonderdog:

This shows Simon being smug *before* he was worth millions.
